Transforming a house to our home

One of my favorite things about getting a new place, is the process of making it our home. In our Memphis house, we went from a bland builders ivory to a house with some personality. This time around the house has plenty of personality - too much. We really had to look past a lot to see the potential of this house.

Here are just a few of the houses "unique" characteristics:

Four rooms have dark painted ceilings: 2 chocolate brown, one navy and this wonderful cloud mural.

A bathroom and hallway had a faux finish that looked like various types of mud smeared on the wall.

The baby's room boasted a pink wall, two orange walls and a chocolate brown wall. It was a clear case of a pre-teen girl allowed to pick her own colors with no guidance. Thank goodness for high coverage primer.
We also have another bedroom with lime green and dark brown walls - there's a lovely accent wall of stripes in 2 shades of lime green. The "bonus" play room has 2 walls of pumpkin orange while the dining room has a light fixture wrapped in fake ivy with plastic raspberries.

Though some personality is missing from the exterior of the house, the boring shades of beige and brown are accented with a "Harvest Gold" front door and shutters with bears. Yikes!

It's all a little crazy but slowly we are calming this house down with beautiful shades of blue, grey and tan. More pictures to come.

Jenn, those colors sounds lovely! Don't make a big mistake - best to leave the lime green and orange so that your home can remain soothing and tranquil.
